Why I started this . . .
Firstly, introductions. My name is Nathan and I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast. I've recreated in many places and truly believe that Washington is an absolute mecca for nature. It's one of the few places where I've been able to indulge in all my outdoor interests. Everything from harvesting shellfish, to chasing the stars, skiing the tall peaks of the Cascades, even scuba diving with an 8-legged cephalopod, most would locally know as a Great Pacific Octopus.
As fun as all these activities are, there is a significant amount of research and preparation that goes into each of them. It can be a task in it of itself to decide which activity is the best choice. With that I've noticed, like the changing of the seasons, different times of the year and environmental conditions are more suited for some adventures rather than others.
With the Washington Adventure Almanac, my goal is to use my personal knowledge of all these activities combined with active research of outdoor conditions to generate a reoccurring newsletter/report. This little blurb will be a weekly summary of the best activities during that time period with no strings attached. Like my own interests, I'll attempt to report on everything from: stargazing opportunities, wildflower blooms, tide-pooling, foraging, to more niche activities like snowshoeing and surfing.
My goal at the end of the day is to enable you to take advantage of the fleeting opportunities that nature often provides for some of these activities. I hope you enjoy the information I can offer as much as I enjoy frolicking in these spaces.
